Design Background

Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed designing and creating things that make people happy - painting handmade birthday cards for friends, sketching family portraits for close friends and family members, and even baking a cake that looks like a Hawaiian pizza for my sister's 30th birthday! No matter what the occasion is, I always love creating something exciting and unique.

I also have a love for math and physics, so after high school, I decided to combine my creative and technical interests and pursued a degree in engineering at the University of Waterloo.

Following my undergrad, I moved to Seattle to work as a civil engineer, where I specialized as a building restoration engineer and designed repairs for existing buildings. I enjoyed this work because it was fast-paced and ambiguous, which required me to adapt to new situations quickly and leverage my creative problem-solving skills on a daily basis.

During my time as an engineer, I had the opportunity to troubleshoot various UX problems for an internally developed software product my company was using. I quickly learned how vital UX design is for the success of both the product and the users. This experience was incredibly energizing and sparked my interest in the field of human-centered design.

In 2019, I transitioned into UX design, and I have been able to leverage my past design experience on a daily basis. I enjoy discovering the root cause of a problem and designing user-friendly products that improve the quality of life for others.

Other Interests

Outside of work, I take my culinary pursuits seriously, and I love making elaborate meals to share with friends to create meaningful experiences together. I am currently creating a cookbook, and have enjoyed applying my product design skills to this process, and have developed an interest in food photography.

I also love traveling and have had the opportunity to backpack through Europe, Asia, Central America and South America. If I’m not on a global adventure, you’ll find me hiking or driving around the PNW looking for a nice beach or mountain trail. Check out photos below from some of my favorite adventures!
